I paid for it, that time wasn't free. It's a wonderful program and i'm delighted i still see it viable and vibrant to the internet scene. I don't deploy skins or extra options so much, what i like with Opera is the speed and the security it gives. Especially now with dragonfly a feature similar with the firebug addon of firefox it's safe even for developers. I also have it in my palm. I have been using Opera browser from version 3 or 4.
